Rosalita’s Cantina

I decided to spend Sunday evening in my hometown, St. Louis, MO to hopefully watch the St. Louis Blues win the Stanley Cup. Of course, in true Blues fashion, we going to push the series to game 7 and I will probably go into cardiac arrest. I digress.

Downtown St. Louis was WILD. Every single place was overflowing with rowdy Blues fans ready to potential watch history unfold. Rosalita’s Cantina on Washington Ave. was the only place we could get into, which I was pleased about. I had heard good things about them from friends and family members but had never actually been. We ended up getting a great table in the bar area with a perfect view of several televisions.

We saw people with blue drinks and asked our waiter what they were. He told us they were special blue margaritas they had concocted just for the game. Sign me up. They were delicious, I had no idea what was in it but you really can’t go wrong with margaritas.

Rosalita’s comes off as a more modern, tex-mex approach to Mexican style cuisine. They had a menu with a large variety from all your staples to street tacos. I decided to get the grilled fish street tacos. I wasn’t blown away by them, they were pretty bland and this fish wasn’t outstanding by any means. It came with a pineapple salsa on the side which I had high hopes for but it missed the marked. I love spicy food, but it was honestly too spicy. After the fact I found out they put habaneros in it, but honestly is just the most unnecessary thing. Jalapenos will suffice. Truly no one needs to eat habaneros, or ghost peppers, or any other beyond spicy peppers for that matter. If its going to make me sweat and/or feel ill, it seems unnecessary in my opinion.

While I wasn’t completely satisfied with my entree, I tried my boyfriend’s quesadilla and it was pretty good. Overall Rosalita’s was good, but wasn’t anything special in my opinion. They were extremely busy and our waiter seemed frantic so I liked to come back on a normal night and see if the food would be any better when they aren’t slammed. They didn’t quite live up to my expectations and the reviews I have heard but I’ll come back another time and give them a second chance!

Happy #NationalDonutDay

When National Donut Day falls on a Friday, it’s the perfect recipe for a great start to a marvelous weekend. How blessed am I that there’s a Dunkin’ walking distance from my office? The blueberry glazed donut from Dunkin’ is what I consider a delicacy. They’re almost always sold out of these morsels, but the stars have aligned for me on this national holiday.

Since today is National Donut Day, they are giving away free donuts! That’s right, a free donut with any drink purchase. Get yourself down to a Dunkin’ and celebrate National Donut Day properly, you deserve it.

Spritz Not Sprints

Happy hump day y’all! We’ve successfully made it half way through the work week and if it hasn’t been successful, at least you tried and that deserves a drink. Treat yourself to an Aperol Spritz! This is my new summer drink and Barred Owl Butcher does it just right. Perfectly refreshing after a 91° day!

Barred Owl Butcher has a long menu of handcrafted cocktails that are always sure to please. Barred Owl Butcher has a cozy, rustic vibe that offers something very unique to Mid-Missouri. There truly is nothing else in town that offers the trendy, southern vibes that Barred Owl Butcher does. Come here to grab dinner, or just drinks and a cheese plate. I can’t wait to feature more of their drinks and food, stay tuned!

Cobb Salad Aficionado

Glenn’s Cafe is the best restaurant for absolutely all occasions. Brunch, lunch, Valentine’s Day dinner, they do everything just right. Located inside the Tiger Hotel, it is in the heart of downtown and has a special place in my heart. Famous for their southern inspired dishes, this is the perfect place if you are craving comfort food.

Glenn’s has my favorite Cobb salad ever. I consider myself a Cobb salad connoisseur, and they knock it out of the park. A mountain of fresh field greens topped with chicken, bacon, blue cheese, tomatoes, avocado and a hard boiled egg served with their mouth-watering homemade ranch dressing. Glenn’s only uses highest quality, fresh ingredients and you can tell.

It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere

Coley’s American Bistro is a local eatery with a unique twist on American style cuisine. Famous for their pepper jack mac n’ cheese, Coley’s has so much to offer from burgers to salads to nachos. Coley’s truly has something for everyone to enjoy. Coley’s offers a wide selection of beer, wine and handcrafted cocktails. I haphazardly stumbled upon their margarita one evening. It’s small but mighty and it is low-key the best margarita in town full of fresh, high quality flavors.

Sloppy Disco Fries

44 Canteen is my favorite restaurant in Columbia, MO hands down. I haven’t had one thing on their menu that is less than phenomenal. They have a wide selection of local craft beers including Logboat Brewing Co., Schlafly, and 4 Hands Brewing Co. just to name a few. Come here to enjoy unique uniquely curated tacos and handcrafted cocktails, but whatever you do order the ‘Sloppy Disco Fries’.

You’re welcome in advance.

Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Thanks for joining me! I decided to start this blog specifically to share my love of food, my favorite food spots in Missouri and unique food finds as I continue to travel to new places. For me food & drink encapsulates the distinctive style and culture of its people while bringing us together. Food is a common ground.

I’m originally from St. Louis, MO (land of toasted raviolis & gooey butter cake), and I currently reside in Columbia, MO home of the Missouri Tigers (MIZ). I plan to share some of my favorite foods while discovering new things!
