Rosalita’s Cantina

I decided to spend Sunday evening in my hometown, St. Louis, MO to hopefully watch the St. Louis Blues win the Stanley Cup. Of course, in true Blues fashion, we going to push the series to game 7 and I will probably go into cardiac arrest. I digress.

Downtown St. Louis was WILD. Every single place was overflowing with rowdy Blues fans ready to potential watch history unfold. Rosalita’s Cantina on Washington Ave. was the only place we could get into, which I was pleased about. I had heard good things about them from friends and family members but had never actually been. We ended up getting a great table in the bar area with a perfect view of several televisions.

We saw people with blue drinks and asked our waiter what they were. He told us they were special blue margaritas they had concocted just for the game. Sign me up. They were delicious, I had no idea what was in it but you really can’t go wrong with margaritas.

Rosalita’s comes off as a more modern, tex-mex approach to Mexican style cuisine. They had a menu with a large variety from all your staples to street tacos. I decided to get the grilled fish street tacos. I wasn’t blown away by them, they were pretty bland and this fish wasn’t outstanding by any means. It came with a pineapple salsa on the side which I had high hopes for but it missed the marked. I love spicy food, but it was honestly too spicy. After the fact I found out they put habaneros in it, but honestly is just the most unnecessary thing. Jalapenos will suffice. Truly no one needs to eat habaneros, or ghost peppers, or any other beyond spicy peppers for that matter. If its going to make me sweat and/or feel ill, it seems unnecessary in my opinion.

While I wasn’t completely satisfied with my entree, I tried my boyfriend’s quesadilla and it was pretty good. Overall Rosalita’s was good, but wasn’t anything special in my opinion. They were extremely busy and our waiter seemed frantic so I liked to come back on a normal night and see if the food would be any better when they aren’t slammed. They didn’t quite live up to my expectations and the reviews I have heard but I’ll come back another time and give them a second chance!
